AutoCAD History

AutoCAD (originally Autocad) was the first commercially available professional drafting and design program with a multi-platform, graphical user interface. It was initially released in December 1982 as a desktop application running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. Before AutoCAD was introduced, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal.

On November 16, 1983, Autodesk released the first fully multitasking AutoCAD, version 1.0.5.
